Q: What is the difference between sedation and general anesthesia?

A: Sedation helps you feel calm and deeply relaxed, while remaining semi-conscious while general anesthesia ensures you are completely unconscious and unaware during the procedure.  

Q: Is anesthesia safe?

A: Yes, when administered by our highly trained anesthesiologists, anesthesia is very safe. We use sophisticated monitoring equipment and techniques to ensure your safety at all times.

Q: Will I feel pain during the procedure?

A: no, whether you're under sedation or general anesthesia, you will not feel pain during the procedure.  Your anesthesiologist will also manage any discomfort during recovery.

Q: How long will it take to recover?

A: Recovery times vary depending on the type of anesthesia used, and while patients are legally impaired for 24 hours, most patients feel back to normal within a few hours.  Our nurses will guide you through the recovery process and provide detailed instructions. 

Our team will guide you through every step of the process, from preparation to recovery.  Here's what you can expect:

1.  Before your Procedure

• A consultation to review your medical history and determine the best anesthesia plan for you
• Instructions about fasting, medications, and anything else you need to prepare

2.  During your Procedure

• Your anesthesiologist will monitor you continuously to ensure safety and comfort.
• The anesthesia type (sedation or general) will depend on the procedure and your needs.

3.  After your Procedure

• Our nurses will help you recover safely, monitor your condition, and provide aftercare instructions.
• Mild side effects like drowsiness or nausea are normal and typically resolve quickly.

For Paediatric Patients:

We understand that procedures can be stressful for children and their families.  Our anesthesiologists are highly skilled in paediatric anesthesia and specialize in creating a calm, safe environment for young patients.  We'll:

• Use age-appropriate techniques to minimize stress and ensure comfort, such as asking which flavour the child would like to have in their mask
• Provide clear instructions for parents to prepare their child for the procedure
• Answer any questions you or your child may have to ease concerns

Typically, we use a medical gas to get your child off to sleep; this way, we avoid poking your child with a needle to administer medications IV while they are awake. Some mask flavours offered are cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, vanilla, mint, pineapple, and orange!

For Adult Patients:

Our approach to adult anesthesia focuses on personalized care and safety.  We'll:

• Thoroughly review your medical history to tailor the anesthesia plan to your needs
• Address any concerns or questions you have about the procedure or recovery
• Provide detailed instructions to ensure a smooth recovery process

To make your experience as convenient as possible, we offer a virtual consultation via Juvonno, our online platform.  Before. your procedure, we may ask you to complete our Patient Intake Form and meet with us online to discuss your medical history, current medications, and address any specific concerns you may have.
